Fayetteville CAT gets funding for new website
I just got an email from Sky Blalock, director of Fayetteville's Community Access Television Channel. I used the channel weekly during my campaign for City Council. I'm excited to see them get funding to develop their website as a resource for the community, and if you've seen their webpage, you know they need it. I can't wait to see how much more effective this will make them.

Big News from CAT!
The Northwest Arkansas Community Foundation has awarded CAT a Shared GiftGrant to assist with the launching of the new CAT Website Hub. Below isa description of the project. The CAT Website Committee will be doing aformal promotional campaign in January to introduce our new website andhow You can use it. And yes, we will be streaming video of the CATChannel on the World Wide Web! From the grant proposal:
Community Access Television's purpose is to find answers deep within ourcommunity relationships, our ability to help people document and telltheir stories and share our knowledge of media production anddistribution tools.
The purpose of this grant is to transform Community Access Televisionfrom a cable television station to a Community Media Center via a web-based hub offering new media services like blogging, pod-casting andvideo-on-demand with the new generation of online tools. This hub will bean effective communication model for nonprofit organizations, while alsobenefiting individuals and micro-businesses in Northwest Arkansas, usingthe widespread development and adoption of technologies designed topublicize, increase participation, collaboration and democratization ofinformation.
More and more of our governmental, political and cultural life is takingplace electronically. The social divisions born of poverty and race arewidening which will raise the stakes since populations excluded fromusing communication technology by poverty and culture will find theiroptions for participating in society reduced overall. The population thatwill be served by this grant includes women, children, disabled, elderly, and members of a marginalized portion of our society stricken by povertyor isolation. Targeting the entire population of the Northwest Arkansasfour-county region and expanding to the Internet allowing our communityto interact globally.
