City Council - April 7 2009

The agenda for tonight's City Council has a few interesting nuggets. Here are some you might find interesting: (sorry for typoes; I typed this quickly!)
Appeal for Amberwood Place
This development is on the west side of town near 54th street. It's way out there, and that's why the Planning Commission denied it the first time. The developer, Charlie Sloan, has come back with a radically different design, and most of us like it.
Of course it's still way out on the edge of town. What will the developer do to preserve the agriculture potential of the land?
Newspaper publishing
Fellow Ward 2 Alderman Kyle Cook has brought forward a resolution to limit the items we post in the newspaper to only those that are legally required. I support this.
Some public hearings
There are a few public hearings tonight that you might want to weigh in on. The one that really catches my attention is about a piece of land that we are considering de-annexing back to Farmington. When we annexed that huge western chunk of land last year, we also annexed the property of the Farmington City Attorney. Woops! If he doesn't live in Farmington, he can't serve as an elected official for them.
We'll de-annex the land (even though we don't have to), because we want to play nice with our neighbors.
Fayette Junction Master Plan
The Fayette Junction Master Plan is up for approval tonight. It's brilliant. Check it out: http://cityplan2025.accessfayetteville.org/fayette/
Animal Services Advisory Board
We're forming one. It has no budget impact, and they'll tell us lots of ways we can change our animal services to do a better job for less money (expanded spay and neuter programs, YES!).
