Bio and FAQ

I have had a very fortunate life, and I am thankful for it. I was raised in rural Arkansas suburbia, if you can imagine such a place. I grew up on the outskirts of Harrison, Arkansas, and instructed martial arts, became an Eagle scout, graduated from the Arkansas School for Math and Science, and spent a lot of time on computers.

My education has been nontraditional my entire life, and once I started working, my career-path followed suit. I have a propensity for understanding things in a very abstract way, which has been both a blessing and a curse for me. It has led me to a technical profession, and I strive to fill it with meaning. In all things, I focus on strategy and purpose.

Our time is limited, and we have great Work to do.

Read a Q&A after the jump.

What do you do?

You might call me a social entrepreneur, because I find value in productivity and social interactions, and I try to leverage it. But "social entrepreneur" isn't very descriptive, is it?

Try this: I am a full-time organizer for equitable climate changes solutions.

Okay... what exactly does that mean?

That means I do a lot of things, and I do them via both for-profit and non-profit mechanisms.

I write, manage some brands, lobby the state, design web sites and Internet strategies, plan education and awareness campaigns, and create workshops and curricula. I do some public speaking and public relations work, too.

If you want to work with me, check out what I'm doing in the public, NGO, and forprofit sectors.

What's your background in all of this stuff?

The short answer is I've been doing leadership and technical training for a long time with the Boy Scouts and martial arts. I went to an advanced high school and have been an entrepreneur and organizer since leaving college five years ago.

I wrote a blog post that has a longer answer.

Why are you running for City Council?

A lot of people think one shouldn't touch politics, even with a ten-foot pole, but I disagree. We need to change things, and there are two sides of the change coin. The first side is public sentiment or political will. The first side means grassroots action, education, and outreach.

The second side is leadership. We need leadership to change the laws, and we need to change the laws to become sustainable.

Who do you work with?

I work with a combination of community and field organizers, government officials, national nonprofits, industry representatives, and social and environmental justice organizations.

We're building the movement for green jobs, and if you want to help in a big way, contact me.

I have another question...

Sorry, in the interests of concise design and pleasant browsing experience, I have kept this page short. If you have another question, send me an email with my contact form. If it becomes a common one, I'll add it here.

That's all for now. I'll fill in some of the gaps in the future.
